This is a day long summit to explore transportation demand management (TDM) in Nashville. It will be an exciting day filled with insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and innovative ideas. Attendees will hear from various departments and agencies about how to reduce traffic congestion through sustainable modes of transportation.

Indianapolis and Nashville: The Challenges of Growing Transportation Systems Quickly

As cities across the U.S. grapple with rapid growth and evolving mobility needs, transit agencies are under pressure to scale quickly and equitably. This panel brings together leaders from IndyGo, WeGo Public Transit, the Nashville Department of Transportation, and the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee to explore how major investments—like transportation referendums—can be leveraged to not only expand service but also shift commuter behavior.
Panelists will discuss how Indianapolis navigated the post-referendum landscape to grow its transit system, engage the public, and implement Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies that boosted ridership. Nashville leaders will reflect on how these lessons can inform their own path forward, with a focus on building public trust, fostering partnerships, and using TDM programming to support sustainable growth.

Regional transportation investments and partnerships are shaping the way people move in and around Middle Tennessee. This session will provide updates on major projects and services — including WeGo Public Transit initiatives, RTA commuter rail and express bus service, and regional access improvements — and explore how each connects to TDM strategies in both Nashville and the broader Tennessee landscape.

Nashville’s rapid growth as a destination city has brought both opportunities and challenges in managing mobility during large-scale events. This panel will bring together leaders from the Titan's, NDOT, MNPD, WeGo Public Transit, and Fairpointe Planning to share how the city is implementing transportation demand management strategies to keep people moving safely and efficiently during concerts, festivals, games, and major downtown gatherings.

- Coordinating cross-agency responses for high-attendance events
- Balancing safety, access, and mobility for residents and visitors
- Using transit, micromobility, and TDM strategies to reduce congestion

The TDM Summit is apart of the national TDM Week effort hosted by the Assocation for Commuter Transportation. TDM Week is Monday, September 15 - Friday, September 19.
TDM Week is an opportunity to create awareness among decision-makers and key TDM stakeholders about the importance of including a range of safe and reliable modes of transportation for all users in the transportation planning process. This week is a time to share the importance of enacting programs that reduce the carbon footprint of transportation in our communities.
