Walktober Fest

Step Into Fall with Nashville Connector

This October, Nashville Connector invites commuters and residents throughout Nashville and Davidson County to participate in Walktober Fest, a community challenge celebrating walking and rolling as practical, healthy and sustainable ways to travel.

Walk to work, roll to a transit stop, take a walking meeting or replace a short driving trip with a trip on foot. Track your eligible trips through the Nashville Connector commute-tracking app and see how your steps contribute to a more connected Nashville.

Whether you walk every day or are trying it for the first time, every trip counts.

How Walktober Fest Works

1. Join the challenge

Sign in to your Nashville Connector account or create a free account through our commute-tracking app. Select Walktober Fest from the available challenges and join the campaign.

2. Walk or roll for transportation

Throughout October, replace eligible driving trips with walking or rolling whenever it works for you.

Qualifying trips may include:

  • Walking or rolling to work
  • Traveling to a bus stop or train station
  • Walking between transit connections
  • Traveling to lunch, meetings or appointments
  • Completing errands on foot
  • Walking to school or another daily destination
  • Taking a walking meeting during the workday
  • Parking farther away and walking the remaining distance
  • Combining walking with transit, carpooling or another transportation option

Trips can be short or long. You do not need to complete your entire commute on foot for it to count.

3. Track your trips

After completing an eligible trip, log it in the Nashville Connector commute-tracking app and select Walking as your transportation mode.

Remember to include walking connections that are part of a longer trip. For example, if you walk to a bus stop, ride transit and then walk to your final destination, you can record the walking and transit portions of your trip.

4. Follow your progress

Use your Nashville Connector account to monitor your trips, miles traveled, calories burned and environmental impact throughout the challenge.

Invite your friends and coworkers to participate and see how much your team or organization can accomplish together.

What Counts as a Trip?

A trip is travel from one location to another for a specific purpose. Your trip could be a commute to work, a visit to a business, a trip to lunch, an appointment or another daily destination.

Walking or rolling for part of a trip also counts. You do not have to walk the entire distance to participate.

A walking trip completed only for exercise, such as walking laps without traveling to a destination, may be recorded separately but should not be counted as a transportation trip unless the challenge rules specifically allow recreational walks.

Who Can Participate?

Walktober Fest is open to people who live, work or travel in Nashville and Davidson County.

You can participate:

  • As an individual
  • With friends or family
  • As part of a workplace team
  • On behalf of a company or organization
  • With a neighborhood, school or community group

All experience and ability levels are welcome. Participants may walk or use a mobility device to complete eligible trips.

Why Participate?

Walking and rolling can support personal health while helping Nashville reduce traffic, improve air quality and make better use of existing transportation infrastructure.

Participating in Walktober Fest can help you:

  • Add movement to your daily routine
  • Explore your neighborhood from a different perspective
  • Reduce the number of short trips made by car
  • Save money on fuel and parking
  • Connect with transit and other transportation options
  • Discover businesses, parks and destinations along your route
  • Support a safer and more walkable Nashville

Walktober Fest is also an opportunity to notice where Nashville’s walking network works well and where barriers remain. Participants are encouraged to pay attention to sidewalk conditions, crossings, accessibility, lighting, shade and connections to transit.

Prizes and Recognition

Each eligible trip you track during Walktober Fest will count as an automatic entry into the campaign’s prize drawings.

Participants may be eligible to win:

  • Gift cards
  • Walking and outdoor gear
  • Nashville experiences
  • Transportation-related prizes
  • Additional giveaways

More trips mean more opportunities to win.

Prize details, eligibility requirements and drawing dates will be announced before the challenge begins.
